Why Are Perenial Losers Perenial Losers?

When you are a UTEP Miners football fan, when that team is the team that represents the university that you love, you have plenty of opportunities to think about losing.  UTEP should offer a Doctoral Program in Losing.  Most of us longtime fans could test out and be awarded the degrees, especially if there were verbal exams before boards of fellow Doctorates in Losing.

But, today, I thought I would narrow the topic a bit.  First, we have to acknowledge that there are such a thing as winners and losers.  They can change over time and one can become the other, but we have to agree that there are losers.  Everyone is a winner and everyone has experienced losing.  But, there are the Golden Childs and there are the Born Losers.  And what is also true is that there is a certain amount of human nature that reverts to the animalistic behavior of pecking and picking on the “loser” to drive them out.  We would love to deny it, but there is that part of us that is more than ok with it.  Now wait a minute!  I’m not talking about a regular old day to day person having a tough time.  No, they get all of the right emotions and thoughts.  Nope, I’m talking about the “born losers”.  It is almost like they like it and deserve it, but we know that is just bs.  But, still.  There is that feeling.  What a loser!  Contempt and so much more.

Are the Born Losers genetically predetermined or did they learn to be losers.  Nature versus nurture.  Native American burial grounds, the Curse of the Bambino, or living down to the standards and expectations of a tradition of losing.  Who knows?  My question is, can a born loser change that, or it the answer in the name?  Can UTEP Football ever be anything other than it has been for more than a few years once in a Blue Moon?

Of course it can.  The world is full of stories about the hopeless finding a way.  Or a way finding them.  They are the very best stories of all, and we love them.  Even when we are proved wrong.  More so, maybe, because it reinforces our having faith in turning the things around in our own lives.  Not today, necessarily, but a some time when we need it them most.  I hope our worm gets turned sooner than later. We’ve been down for so long we have to look up to see the soles of our feet.

But, we continue to look up, and build character, perhaps.  We are, after all, Miners.

But, Hey! We Have Pretty New Helmets and Uniforms and How About Some Nice Box Seats

This is going to make even more Miners fans mad at me, but any of you that were excited about helmet logos or new jerseys and colors leave me shaking my head. We are villagers in Dark Ages Europe with the Black Plague raging and some of you are impressed with the size of the rats! I know, you are just trying to be good fans. Looking for anything positive. I know. I understand. Maybe Kugler can get some of those cool little stickers to put on the pretty new helmets. That white was intimidating, now wasn’t it. More like uniforms made out of French surrender flags!

OK, I honestly have to ask. Are the Club Box Seats Stull envisioned for the Richie Riches to watch Monster Trucks and U2 Concerts? Cartel money from across the border for soccer matches? Because, seriously, it can’t be for Miners fans to watch Miners football, can it? Really? Let an individual, or some corporation try and get a loan for that idea. Yeah, sure, we are going to sell these nice Club Boxes to people with lots of money or like companies to give the tickets away to their customers. Oh, yeah, those will sell like hot cakes. Who can’t wait to spend an evening watching the home team getting used and abused like a Mike Tyson sparring partner. No, it has to be for the other things.

There Has To Be a Syndrome Or Something That Miners Football Fans Become Victims

of.

Here is the cycle.  Spring Football signals a fresh start.  Then we spend all summer anxiously waiting.  We can’t show we are as bad as last year until we play a game this year.  Finally, after months of waiting and anticipating, we play our first game.  We stink. But, it is only one game.  Then we play a second game and all hope is dashed.  We are not any better than last year’s team, and very possibly worse.  Two weeks into the 13 week season Miners fans season is done.  From this point on we are prisoners of war, to be abused, tortured, and humiliated.  By week two, Miners fans have switched to our own little world of Endurance. Finally, after two and a half more months of Hell, we are released.  In the Spring, we begin the cycle all over.

Battered Wife Syndrome?  You love him and he says he is sorry and will do better, but like the seasons, the inevitable happens and he does it again.  The beatings and public humiliation starts all over again.  You can’t leave him.  There are the kids, and your family, the ties are there, the roots run deep.  You mother was a victim, too.  It is all you have ever known.  There’s nothing to be done.  You can’t just leave for someone else.  This is your family.  Sorry, I have complained too much, already and I am sure I will get another beating for it.  Fuck the beatings!  I’m used to them, and they don’t hardly even hurt, anymore. I’m tough.  He has beat me hundreds of times before, and I’m still here.  I love him, and he promised he will be really nice from now on.  Bruises heal.  Broken bones heal.

Pick Any High School Coach, Give Them A Week and See If They Can’t Run the Ball

more than Kugler-THE RUNNING GAME ONLY COACH!! After two games the UTEP MINERS behind Kugler’s Bully Boys have less than 100 yards rushing! Kugler is a shitty football coach but a pretty damned good thief. I don’t know what he gets paid by the game, but he is just stealing UTEP’s and the UTEP fan’s money. Its like he walked around pick pocketing the fans at the game, For him to stand there all mad is a fucking joke. Tell me how it is on you, you thick headed idiot. Like we don’t know who is responsible for the fucking abortion you smeared all over the Sun Bowl turf. But, you got us some new, old school uniforms and helmets. Cute. The money spent on uniforms and helmets could have been better spent paying Sean to go back to fucking New York and bully boy it up where he would be appreciated for the tough guy he is. What an ass hat! Instead of “My bad” which we already know, how about you understand that it is the football program and not just a game that is YOUR BAD! Your bad is so bad you shouldn’t be in the position to continue “YOUR BAD!”

Can you fucking imagine the poor players having to go to practice? How many of you would keep showing up to work if your job was to be humiliated once a week in front of thousands of family, friends, and neighbors? Week after week? I have not only lost all respect for Kugler that I might have had, I now consider him to be a thief and he is doing his theft using the backs of young men to commit his crime. And he knows it! And that makes him a scum sucking dog! Look in the mirror, Sean. If any one of your players performed the way you do, you would be blowing out your forehead veins screaming and yelling at him and he wouldn’t have the job! He would be run off for being worthless! Well, that worthless bastard is you, SEAN!
